Wilber's claim, however, and this makes him quite unique among other authors, is that this meaning of life is bases on a wide reading in science. If Wilber's agenda had been only to be an inspirational or motivational writer, he would not have bothered at all to quote so extensively from the literature of science and philosophy as he has done. In fact, his stated goal has always been to make spirituality respectable from a scientific point of view. Read more: http://www.integralworld.net/visser66.html WHY INTEGRAL THEORY DOESN'T HAVE A BIG TOE PROBLEM - Response to Visser - JOE CORBETT In his recent article on Why Integral Theory is not a Theory of Everything, Frank Visser says toward the end of his article that “differentiating Integral Theory along the lines of I, We and IT is the best way to get a realistic assessment of the value of Wilbers theoretical proposals.” He then proceeds to describe the We domain as including society and politics (which it does not), and the It domain as a world of external matter and life (as if they could collapsed into a singular domain, which they cannot). I agree with Frank that differentiating Integral Theory along its descriptive lines is the best way to get a realistic assessment of its theoretical proposals, but those differentiations must first be properly demarcated. My nephew Shanti asked me the other day for recommendations on introductory books on how to meditate. I wanted to send him something, but I soon realized that I wasn’t satisfied with what was on offer. Many were too simplistic for my tastes and others were too religiously bound. I decided that perhaps it would be fruitful to provide a brief explanation behind why meditation works and provide step-by-step directions on how to do it. Given that there are so many meditational disciplines, I thought I would just focus on the one technique that I have been doing these past 40 or so years.
