Given the Paris shootings of last week, here's a list of them. Hopefully they provide some much needed background in our struggle to understand and prevent these atrocities: THE GLOBAL GREAT DIVIDE - An Integral Initiative - DON BECK (2001) http://www.integralworld.net/beck6.html THE MYTH OF ISLAM AS A RELIGION OF PEACE - RAY HARRIS (2005) http://www.integralworld.net/harris20.html THE MYTH OF ISLAM AS A WARRIOR CULT - A response to Ray Harris - ANTHONY GALLI (2006) http://www.integralworld.net/galli.html THE MANY FACES OF ISLAM - ORTHODOX, MODERATE AND PROGRESSIVE - RAY HARRIS (2006) http://www.integralworld.net/harris23.html THE MUSLIM LADDER - DUSTIN DIPERNA (2007) http://www.integralworld.net/diperna03.html BRIDGING THE CHASM - Sam Harris, Ben Affleck, and a Needed Dose of Integral Theory - DUSTIN DIPERNA (2014) http://www.integralworld.net/diperna05.html =========== RECENT ADDITIONS TO THE READING ROOM: THE MYSTIC AS SKEPTIC - Intertheoretic Reductionism as a Spiritual Tool - DAVID LANE I really enjoyed Elliot Benjamin’s latest essay describing his Critical-Skeptical-Agnostic Perspective contrasting it with my own “Remainder Conjecture” article. There is much to commend about Benjamin’s piece, particularly his openness to keeping within an interpretative “no boundary zone” where one remains free to ponder differing explanations without having to shut off alternative theories too early. I quite agree with Benjamin when he writes in his penultimate paragraph that he is comfortable in “not knowing.” Read more: http://www.integralworld.net/lane83.html THE REMAINDER CONJECTURE VS. THE CRITICAL-SKEPTICAL-AGNOSTIC PERSPECTIVE - ELLIOT BENJAMIN I read David Lane's recent Integral World essay The Remainder Conjecture: Driving Science to the Brink of an Epistemological Cul de Sac [1] with much interest. At first glance it may appear that Lane's Remainder Conjecture already is what I have pitted against it in the title of this essay: a “critical/skeptical/agnostic” perspective. I certainly have no disagreement with Lane's basic argument—to exhaust all possible physical explanations for “mysterious” phenomena before making any spiritual interpretations. However, I feel uncomfortable with Lane's basic a priori materialistic premise, even though I understand his logic that “if something is genuinely beyond scientific reach, it will invariably show up as a remainder.” Read more: http://www.integralworld.net/benjamin70.html To SUBSCRIBE to this Integral World Newsletter or change your email address, click here: http://www.integralworld.net/pommo/user/subscribe.php To UNSUBSCRIBE, update your account by logging in.
